At Cherry Chase Elementary, we transformed a vacant classroom into a science classroom to provide every K-5 student the opportunity to experience science through hands-on experiments and exploration on a regular basis.
All students will have access to apply what they have been learning in the classroom with their teacher using the Sunnyvale School District (SSD) Board of Education adopted science curriculum, Mystery Science, in a science lab.
Starting this school year, all K-5 students will visit the lab once a week for 30-minute hands-on activities facilitated by a science instructor and their classroom teacher.
One of the first experiments students did this year was to analyze sand from various places. They compared and contrasted the sand and used vocabulary they learned throughout the Mystery Science unit.
“Looking at real sand under the microscope is even better than recess!” exclaimed Ryan, one of the students in the class.
