CMS students learn about physics with Stomp Rocket Launch

As the culmination of our Motion & Forces Unit, 8th Grade Science classes participated in a Stomp Rocket Launch on November 9th & 10th!  First, students built their rockets in class out of paper and tape. Then they launched the rockets by stomping on a 2-liter soda bottle.  Each group measured their rocket’s air time and distance and then calculated speeds and averages. They used this as evidence in their Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) analytical writing the following week about the forces that acted upon their rocket.  CER is a writing strategy SSD uses that helps develop a student’s analytical thinking and argumentative writing skills.
