Columbia Middle School holds first Pops Concert

The CMS music department rocked its first ever pops concert on Wednesday, February 13 at 6 pm in the Multi. Students performed music from Pixar, Hunger Games and much more in front of a jam-packed audience of family members and friends. The Chamber Orchestra started things off with a Star Wars medley. The String Orchestra then beautifully executed the “Entry of the Tumblers” and “The Russian Music Box.” The ukulele group then played “Riptide” by Vance Joy and “Hakuna Matata” from the Lion King.

The Sixth Grade Choir then sang “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s Moana and “Tale as Old as Time” from Beauty and the Beast. The mixed choir performed the “Cups” song from the movie Pitch Perfect accompanied by Mr. Andy Morales on the guitar and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” in English and in Spanish. The Concert Choir then performed “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Seasons of Love” from Rent, accompanied on piano by Joe Howard, the choir director at Fremont High School. The Symphonic Band then brought it all home with a high-powered version of the theme song from the movie The Incredibles as well as The Code and a Pixar Movie Magic medley for which Instrumental Director Warren Scott made a special costume change (see below).
