Thanks to our fourth-grade neighborhood teacher, Michelle Hostetler’s diligent work with First Book, we have ordered enough books for each of our 384 San Miguel students to take home two free books! We were able to get the books in the hands of our young readers before the February break. Thanks to some of our dedicated school volunteers and classroom teachers, we had a very successful event! Upper-grade students made posters to share the great news around campus. The students were so excited to receive two brand new, high-interest books to take home.
“Giving students access to books of their choice opens opportunities to build vocabulary, encounter new worlds and ideas, and make sense of the world they live in. My hope is that this leads to reflecting, discussing, and perhaps even recommending what they read to others, which is building a community of readers.” Michelle Hostetler
