The Sunnyvale School District had the distinct honor of being recognized as a Champion District Partner at the Family Engagement Institute’s 10th Anniversary Celebration and for “extraordinary contributions to FEI’s decade of existence.”
FEI is an innovative, student equity initiative at Foothill College that provides developmentally and culturally responsive family programs.
SSD and FEI have been partners for nearly eight years to provide parenting workshops and Stretch to Kindergarten, an annual summer program designed for incoming kindergarten students who have not participated in preschool.
The celebration took place virtually on October 9.
“There is no better time – given the state of our current world- to gather together in leadership and courage to reimagine our educational system,” FEI Executive Director Betsy Nikolchev said. “SSD, since the beginning, has always been committed to serving all students. I think that even though it takes everybody if the leadership doesn’t set the tone it really impairs progress. I really commend Sunnyvale for always having those clear values.”
FEI and SSD share the belief that the power of family and community in creating a culture of belonging inspires college-going aspirations, access, retention, and success.
