The Sunnyvale School District would like to congratulate Vargas Elementary School Assistant Principal John Austin for being recognized by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) as a First Year SuperStar after completing his first year as assistant principal!
The Association of California School Administrators is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the United States, serving more than 17,000 California educators. ACSA recognizes that being a first-year administrator is very difficult, and wants to encourage our Superstars to continue to aspire in their current role and future roles.
“Just in the short time that John has worked at Vargas Elementary School as Assistant Principal, he has become a valuable member of our school staff and has begun building strong connections with families in our school community,” said Vargas Principal Kathryn Armstrong. “With a background in special education, John is an advocate for all students and works collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure that students receive the interventions and supports they need both in and outside of the school setting. John’s commitment to getting to know his students and school community and valuing all that they offer, have made him a great addition to the Vargas team.”
John came to the District is 2010 as a para-educator at Bishop School. He began his teaching career the following year as Resource Specialist at Lakewood. Prior to becoming Assistant Principal in 2017-18, John served as an induction mentor and early literacy coach.
