This year, the Sunnyvale Education Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary! SEF was founded in 2015 with the aim of making a positive impact on all Sunnyvale school district students by enhancing their educational experience. By working in the community with corporations, local businesses, charitable organizations, and families, the organization has been able to consistently raise money for equitable enrichment programs and activities at SSD schools that the students love.
For the 2024-2025 school year, Sunnyvale Education Foundation has allocated over $150,000 in grants to SSD schools in support of exciting programs such as:
- The purchase of new violas for school orchestras
- Transportation for field trips to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Exploratorium, and more
- Student stage productions with Starting Arts
- Books for School Libraries
- After-school activities and assemblies for math, music, writing, and art
- Science Camp
All this could not have been possible without the incredible support of dedicated parents and guardians who act as representatives for each of the SSD schools, working with their staff and faculty to elevate their school’s voice, nurture relationships, and help determine what programs would have a tremendous positive impact for students.
It Starts With You: Volunteer with SEF
As an all-volunteer-based organization, SEF is ALWAYS looking for parents and guardians who are interested in learning about how they can make a difference in their school. Come see our website (https://www.sunnyvaleeducationfoundation.org/fundraising/volunteer/) to learn more about school rep openings and volunteer opportunities.
Donate to Support Important SEF Programs:
Of course, anyone who is interested in making a more monetary-based impact is more than welcome to donate by visiting https://www.sunnyvaleeducationfoundation.org/donate/. In addition, many companies (Apple, Applied Materials, Genentech, Google, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Salesforce, to name a few) offer donation matching for their employees, which can provide an extra impact.
Join In at SEF Spring Events:
Sunnyvale Education Foundation is also hosting two events in April and May, welcoming people in the community to join in, learn more about the organization’s mission and impact, and contribute their thoughts.
- Roundtable: Performing Arts in SSD
The first event recognizes that programs which focus on the performing arts (music and drama) has been a particularly popular request from schools this year. With that in mind, the Sunnyvale Education Foundation and Sunnyvale School District will host a roundtable discussion to learn how performing arts can continue to be supported with programs in the future. The roundtable will happen on April 1st. Leaders of school parent groups, faculty, and others who are passionate about performing arts are warmly welcomed. More information is available on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sunnyvaleedfoundation).
- SEF Student Showcase:
The second event is the annual SEF Showcase, which will feature performances, artwork, and presentations by students and staff for programs that SEF has funded this year. It’s a great opportunity to see first-hand how SEF-funded programs bring students’ educational experiences to new heights. The showcase is scheduled for May 6th and all are invited to attend. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sunnyvaleedfoundation) and Website (https://www.sunnyvaleeducationfoundation.org/) for more information and to register for the event.
Here’s to 10 years of inspiring brilliance in the Sunnyvale School District and many more!
