Five Sunnyvale School District elementary students competed on May 17 in Sodexo’s Future Chefs Challenge. The national initiative aims to get students thinking about making healthy food choices while encouraging them to get active and creative in the kitchen!
Sunnyvale School District joined several districts across the country in the competition. Judges included Board President Isabel Jubes-Flamerich, Assistant Superintendent Jeremy Nishihara, Sodexo Executive Chef Samanth van Gogh, and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Jesus Romero.
Congratulations to Audrey Rodriguez, a fifth grader at Cherry Chase, who finished first place for our district! Her Terrific Tomato Soup recipe won her a cookware set, cutting boards, a cookbook, an apron, a bowl set, and a light!
Congratulations also to the other competitors Matthew Cerda, a fifth grader at Bishop with his Skinny Carrot Oatmeal Cake recipe, Gia Han Pham, a fourth grader at Ellis with her Spring Roll recipe, Tyler Thomas, a fifth grader at San Miguel with his Hawaiian Burrito Pizza Roll recipe, and Niko D’Oria, a fourth grader at Lakewood with his Basta Pasta recipe! All the competitors received a cookbook.
The talent of our Future Chefs is truly impressive! We look forward to seeing more from our aspiring chefs next year!
