Two Cumberland students recently earned regional recognition for their artwork.

Cumberland fourth-grader Valeria Sysak was recognized by the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE).

Valeria’s painting, titled “Colorful Nature Together,” won the People’s Choice Award for fourth grade in the SCCOE’s Young Artist Showcase. The painting uses powerful, saturated colors to depict a garden labyrinth, a way to find your way. An artist and builder since a very young age, Valeria loves art and also plays competitive soccer.

Cumberland fifth-grader Pranav Dhaulakhandi wrote an award-winning musical composition titled “I don’t know why.”

Pranav’s song talks about why there are so many wars and fights and why people hurt each other’s feelings. After winning the Award of Excellence at the district and county levels of the National PTA Reflections arts program, Pranav’s piece won an Award of Merit at the program’s state level. The 2022-2023 National PTA Reflections theme was “Show Your Voice!”

Pranav likes to play the piano and has been writing songs since third grade.
