SSD acquires 4 new electric buses and one natural gas bus thanks to BAAQMD grant

The Sunnyvale School District test rode one of its new all-electric buses for the first time on a route to Lakewood on Dec. 11!

The district acquired four new all-electric buses and one new natural gas school bus in the fall thanks to a grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District that the District’s mechanic, Dion Childs, recommended the district pursue. The grant was approved by the Board of Education in September.

The total cost of the five buses would have been $1.8M but the district only had to pay $212,524 thanks to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) grant.

Here’s to a greener future!

Hi Ms. Wilson,

Did those new Bluebird AA T3RE’s replace the older AA A3RE’s? If so, can the SSD please keep a few old A3REs and not replace them? I really want to see a few old SSD buses driving again as well. It would be sad seeing the last old ones go away.

And next time can you guys please buy some Thomas Saf-T-Liner HDX’s (not to replace A3RE’s)? It’s not fun for me to see just two types of buses in the district. I would love to see a few. I am a very big fan of school buses

(This is request not demand)

Regards, Neil
