On December 12, 2019, the Sunnyvale School District Board of Education elected its officers for 2020. Michelle Maginot (elected to the board in 2018) was named president, and Reid Myers (elected to the board in 2011) was named vice-president.
Michelle Maginot has been a Sunnyvale resident for more than 30 years. She attended Cumberland Elementary School, Sunnyvale Middle School, and Fremont High School. She has three students in the district. Her hope as a board member is to continue the great work of the board and administration and continue to work to remove the barriers which prevent some of our students from receiving the high-quality education our schools provide. Maginot is being passed the gavel from board member Nancy Newkirk.
As the elected governing body of the Sunnyvale School District, the board’s five members approve the budget and set policies that guide the district in providing administrative, instructional, and student services to the 10 schools in the district. Aside from Maginot, Myers and Newkirk, members are Jeffrey Arnett and Bridget Watson.
Board of Education meetings are generally scheduled at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month at the Sunnyvale School District Administrative Office, 819 West Iowa Avenue, Sunnyvale.
