SSD welcomes New Administrators to CMS and San Miguel

The 2020-2021 school year brings many familiar SSD faces into new administrator roles!

Many were highlighted in a story in our June 2020 issue here: http://sesd-district-digest.org/sunnyvale-school-district-welcomes-familiar-faces-into-new-roles/

Since then, we’ve also welcomed Mr. Daniel Poo as the new principal of Columbia Middle School and Ms. Nicole Fiala as the new Assistant Principal of San Miguel Elementary.

Daniel Poo stands in front of a muralDaniel emerged as the top candidate from an exceptionally strong field of over twenty applicants and will begin his assignment with the new school year. He replaces Mary Beth Allmann who will move to the District Office as Director of Human Resources next year.

Daniel has served as the Assistant Principal at Columbia Middle School for the past eight years and is a strong candidate who will provide stability and leadership for the staff, students, and community as we move into next year and beyond. Prior to coming to Sunnyvale, he served in a number of administrative roles, including Dean of Students/Interim Principal for Leadership Public Schools, as well as Director of Student Service and Counselor of Discipline at MACSA Academia.

Throughout the interview process, panelists were very impressed with Daniel’s honesty, leadership vision, and his belief in equity and addressing the needs of all students. Thanks to all those who participated in the Thoughtexchange input process and to those who served on the interview panels.

Congratulations Daniel on your well-deserved appointment!
