New to our schools? First of all, we are happy to have you here in Sunnyvale’s public schools! You have enrolled your child in an award-winning school district that believes in building on each child’s individual strengths and learning styles, and providing a well-rounded education that focuses on our students’ needs, both academic and social-emotional.
Here are a few things you can do right now to help you and your child settle in:
- Get in touch with your school and see if they’re holding any events for new and returning families
- Download the 2016-17 Student and Family Handbook and turn in the required forms
- Sign up to receive emails about your child’s schoolwork and be in touch with teachers on PowerSchool (have your child’s SSD ID number handy)
- Check with your school secretary to make sure your contact information is up to date
- Find the closest VTA lines to your school
- Find your school’s website
- Find out what’s for lunch
- Apply online for free or reduced-price meals—even if you don’t need or want them, each completed application helps fund our schools and benefits all students
- Join Sunnyvale parent organizations you’re interested in
- To get the latest news and information, follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or sign up for our quarterly email newsletter
- Subscribe to our calendar so you don’t miss an event or a day off by following the instructions on our Ways We Communicate page
- Share these safety tips (Español) from Safe Routes to School with your child
