On Saturday, April 7th, after running the fourth and fifth grade Math Olympics after school club for the last few months, fifth grade teachers Brittany Jansen and Jackie Cerna held their annual Math Olympics competition. Ellis staff members and their family members helped out by volunteering to be judges at several math stations by supervising groups of three students as they worked as a team to solve grade level math problems and then chose one student from each group to explain how they solved the problem. Staff members judged students in several categories including Teamwork, Explanation, Accuracy and each team’s ability to answer several questions about the process of solving their problems. Team awards were given out at the end of the competition and they ended the event with a catered food truck lunch complete with homemade ice cream! It was a great way to bring the Ellis community together to celebrate the students’ successes!
