New Student Registration and Open Enrollment for 2024-2025 begins in February

New Student Registration

New Student Registration for 2024-2025 begins in February and continues through the end of the school year.

Families can find all of the necessary instructions for new students, including the required proof of residency documents on our Registration webpage

For assistance with the paperwork or questions, please contact the Student Information and Enrollment Department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 408-522-8200 ext. 1016, Cecilia.castaneda@sesd.org, or in person (819 W. Iowa Avenue, Sunnyvale).

If your student ended the school year with us, no action is required — you will automatically be enrolled in your next grade or school for the 2024-2025 school year.

Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten is the first of a two-year kindergarten program. TK offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is just right for the younger learner.

In response to the passage of The Kindergarten Readiness Act (Senate Bill 1381), the Sunnyvale School District may enroll their child for TK as follows:

  • For the 2024-25 school year, children who turn 5 between September 2, 2024 and June 2, 2025

For more information about the program design visit https://www.sesd.org/Page/819.

Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment, the time frame during which you may request a transfer from your school of residence to another school within the Sunnyvale School District, will take place February 1-14, 2024.

Open Enrollment is one of the ways the Sunnyvale School District aims to meet the diverse needs and interests of its students. We know that each child learns differently and is inspired by different things — that’s why all of our schools offer project-based learning, art, music, movement, living history, one-to-one technology, hands-on science, and differentiation. That is also why we offer several Programs of Choice.

Sunnyvale School District’s Programs of Choice cover a variety of themes:  science focus, Spanish-English dual-language immersion, parent participation, a leadership program, and technology and social smarts. To learn more about our Programs of Choice please visit https://www.sesd.org/Page/242.

Open Enrollment is not necessary for students who are registered with and wish to attend their home school.

All Sunnyvale School District schools are available for Open Enrollment. However, the District annually reviews enrollment at all schools and identifies impacted schools that are not available for Open Enrollment in a given year.

For more information about Open Enrollment please visit https://www.sesd.org/Page/241.

Interdistrict and Intradistrict Transfers

The InterDistrict Transfer process applies to parents who would like their students to attend a school in a district other than their residential district.

The IntraDistrict Transfer process applies to parents who would like their students to attend a school within the Sunnyvale School District other than their home school. Intras are accepted after February 19 and is open until the end of the year.

To learn more about either process please visit our Student Information and Enrollment webpage at https://www.sesd.org/Page/4663.
