Sunnyvale School District’s Board President Bridget Watson was installed as the President of the Santa Clara County School Boards Association for the 2022-2023 school year. Her term started on June 1.
Founded in 1975, Santa Clara County School Boards Association offers board development services, communication, and other activities to promote public education for the 31 elementary, high school, and unified school district Boards of Trustees in Santa Clara. In concert with the California School Boards Association (CSBA), SCCSBA seeks to build an effective foundation for the education of all children in our diverse communities, by providing education advocacy, professional governance, and policy development.
The Association hosts monthly Executive Board meetings, as well as monthly informal Q&A sessions with the County Superintendent and fellow trustees. It’s an association that provides resources, professional development, peer-to-peer education, and advocacy. Recently, the organization has founded a Legislative Action Committee in order to develop common priorities for the region, deepen relationships, organize strategic advocacy opportunities, and quickly pivot to action to positively impact the students we serve.
One of the most active County Associations affiliated with CSBA, SCCSBA sponsors a number of well-attended events during the school year, including a Legislative Brunch with all of our county’s locally elected State Legislators. At the Annual Hoffmann Awards General Membership Dinner Meeting, SCCSBA recognizes outstanding programs in the county with the Glenn Hoffmann Awards. The year finishes with the Annual Reorganization Meeting and Installation of Officers. Looking forward to elections in November every two (even) years, SCCSBA holds Board candidate workshops in early June of those years to continue stimulating interest in school board service.
