Superintendent’s Message: December 2018

Sunnyvale School District logo

Dear Friends,

I hope you had a peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.

You have certainly given us reason to be thankful here in the Sunnyvale School District! A few weeks ago, nearly 71 percent of local voters stepped forward to collectively give our students a boost toward learning success. With your vote for Measure GG, you told our children that they matter — a message that will resonate for decades to come in our community, first in our bright and modern classrooms and ultimately through student voices as they step forward to take their places in the world.

Learning environments matter in a variety of ways, influencing everything from children’s physical safety and student behaviors to our ability to attract and retain exceptional staff. Flexible learning spaces allow us to respond nimbly to student needs, providing time for hands-on arts or exploration, collective problem solving and collaboration, or focused desk time, and empowering teachers to allow the goals of the lessons to drive the activities of the day. And we know that when students walk into their schools and see evidence that we believe them to be budding scholars, scientists, artists, and communicators, they believe it too.

With the passage of Measure GG, we can continue to modernize our schools according to our master plan, building and renovating for safety, security, energy efficiency, instructional flexibility, and modern technology. We look forward to sharing progress updates with you through district publications, and welcome your questions and thoughts at any time.

Thank you again for all the ways your partner with us. It is a privilege to serve your children.

Sincerely,

Benjamin H. Picard, Ed.D.
